Club Car DS AC Conversion Kit Guide: 36V, 48V, IQ & Regen Fitment

A Club Car DS AC conversion can transform an older cart, but DS fitment is not one-size-fits-all. The DS platform spans multiple generations, voltages and controller systems, and motor clearance can change what will physically fit.

Start with the exact DS drivetrain

Before choosing a kit, identify whether your cart uses a Series, IQ/Excel-style, Regen II/PowerDrive II, or another controller system. The body may look similar even when the electrical architecture is different.

Use the controller label, connector layout and motor wiring to identify what is actually installed. If the cart has been modified before, trust the parts on the cart more than a year chart.

36V vs 48V DS carts

Older Club Car DS carts are commonly found in both 36V and 48V configurations. If a conversion kit uses a 48V AC motor and controller, a 36V cart may need a complete battery-system conversion rather than just a motor/controller swap.

That can include the battery pack, charger, solenoid or contactor, DC-to-DC converter, wiring and accessories.

IQ / Excel DS conversions

Some Navitas DC-to-AC kits are designed around supported Club Car IQ/Excel applications. Match the controller family and harness before ordering. A kit for one Club Car system should not be assumed to fit another simply because both carts are 48V.

Regen II / PowerDrive II conversions

Regen II applications use their own wiring and controller architecture. If your DS is a Regen cart, choose a kit specifically tied to that system and confirm motor clearance before stepping up to a larger motor.

4kW vs 5kW motor clearance

The DS chassis can have tighter motor clearance than later Precedent-style carts. Some larger 5kW motors may require a lift or additional clearance. If your cart is stock height, verify physical fit before assuming the highest-kW option is best.

What parts may need upgrading?

  • AC motor and controller
  • main contactor or solenoid
  • motor and battery cables
  • charger if system voltage changes
  • DC-to-DC converter for 12V accessories
  • battery pack and BMS if converting to lithium

Use the fitment finder

Browse our AC conversion kits and select Club Car DS, exact year, current voltage and target voltage. If the finder asks about the controller system, match the label rather than guessing.
