Club Car Onward & Tempo Controller Upgrade Guide
Club Car Onward and Tempo controller upgrades can add acceleration, torque and tuning flexibility, but only when the replacement controller matches the cart’s existing drivetrain.
First question: is the cart AC or DC?
If the cart still has a stock DC motor, a controller-only AC upgrade will not work. You need either a compatible DC controller or a complete DC-to-AC conversion kit.
If the cart already has an AC motor, identify whether it is factory AC or an aftermarket conversion before shopping for a replacement controller.
IQ/APPS and Curtis controller applications
Some Onward and Tempo conversion packages are tied to Curtis 1510/1515 IQ/APPS-style systems. Match the controller label and throttle architecture rather than choosing solely by year.
Why the controller label matters
Club Car changed electronics across model lines, and aftermarket conversions add another layer. A 600A controller from the correct brand can still be wrong if the connector, throttle input or motor feedback system does not match.
48V vs 72V builds
A controller may support more than one operating voltage, but a whole-cart voltage change requires checking the motor, battery, BMS, charger, contactor, DC-to-DC converter and wiring.

Both brands offer high-current controller and conversion options for supported Club Car applications. Fitment comes first; amperage comes second. Compare the exact cart application before deciding between a 440A, 600A or larger controller.
