MZJ Solenoid Fitment: Coil Voltage vs. Contact Rating
A matching coil voltage does not establish a matching main-contact rating. Check both circuits when choosing an MZJ-400D contactor for an Alltrax, Navitas or other controller installation.
Compare the versions
| Store SKU | Control coil | Published MZJ-400D contact-circuit limit |
|---|---|---|
| MZJ-400D-36 | 36V DC | 60V DC maximum; verify the exact unit. |
| MZJ-400D-48 | 48V DC | 60V DC maximum; verify the exact unit. |
| MZJ-400D-72 | 72V DC | Not approved here as a main contactor for a 72V battery pack. |
The referenced manufacturer sheet lists 400A load current in a 48V contact circuit. The coil controls the contactor; the main contacts carry and interrupt the load. A system's maximum charged and regenerative voltage matters—not only the battery's nominal label.
Four checks for a controller upgrade
- Match the controller/cart's coil activation voltage and coil-current capability.
- Confirm the switched-circuit maximum voltage and the required continuous, surge and interruption performance.
- Check terminal layout, cable lugs, mounting space and environmental protection.
- Use the exact controller wiring diagram for suppression and pre-charge requirements; do not copy another controller's wiring assumptions.
Alltrax's documentation identifies the MZJ400 family among heavy-duty contactor examples. That does not approve every MZJ variant, voltage or installation. Component labels and the applicable manufacturer specifications remain necessary.
For a 72V powertrain: choose a contactor whose main contacts are specifically rated for the actual maximum battery-circuit voltage. A 72V coil marking by itself is not enough.
